Logotherapy In Substance Use and Mental Health Treatment

Using Logotherapy in Substance Use and Mental Health Treatment

Helping clients discover meaning and purpose is often a pivotal factor in lasting change. In this 3-hour continuing education workshop, participants will explore how principles of logotherapy can be effectively integrated into clinical work with individuals experiencing substance use disorders, depression, and anxiety.

Grounded in the work of Viktor Frankl, logotherapy offers a powerful framework for helping clients move beyond survival and toward a sense of purpose—even in the midst of suffering. This training will provide practical tools and interventions to help clinicians guide clients in identifying meaning, strengthening resilience, and fostering hope.

Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how purpose-driven work can serve as a stabilizing force in recovery and mental health treatment, along with concrete strategies to immediately apply in clinical practice.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the core principles of logotherapy and their relevance to substance use and mental health treatment.
  2. Identify at least three clinical interventions that incorporate meaning-making and purpose into therapy.
  3. Explain how purpose and meaning can function as protective factors in recovery from substance use, depression, and anxiety.
  4. Apply logotherapy-based strategies to case examples to enhance client motivation, resilience, and hope.
