Leading Where You Are: Influence, Ownership, and Impact in Mental Health Practice

May 22 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
$20.00

Effective leadership in mental health care is not dependent on title or position—it is rooted in influence, ownership, and daily choices. Drawing from key concepts in Leading When You’re Not in Charge, this 3-hour workshop equips mental health professionals to lead from wherever they are within their organization. Participants will explore principles such as taking ownership without formal authority, choosing influence over control, staying engaged rather than disengaged, and leading through consistency and character.

This training translates these concepts into practical application within clinical environments, including team collaboration, client advocacy, supervision dynamics, and organizational culture. Participants will learn how to navigate common barriers such as limited authority, unclear roles, and workplace frustration while maintaining ethical integrity and professional effectiveness. Through discussion and applied examples, clinicians will leave with actionable strategies to increase their impact, strengthen team functioning, and model leadership in everyday practice.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  1. Explain key principles of influence-based leadership (e.g., ownership, engagement, consistency) and their relevance to mental health practice.
  2. Identify ways to exercise leadership without formal authority within clinical teams, agencies, and interdisciplinary settings.
  3. Demonstrate strategies for increasing personal ownership and engagement to improve client care, team dynamics, and workplace culture.
  4. Apply ethical and professional leadership behaviors when responding to challenges such as conflict, burnout, role limitations, and organizational stress.
